So you want to know all about Palmas. Great! Knowing all about Palmas is a worthy goal, especially if you know all the “in” places and the local lingo. After all, who wants to be singled out as an unknowledgeable tourist? So after reading and carefully studying this article you will make a leap from not being savvy about Palmas to being “cool” and impressing the “Snow Birds” around you.By the way, snow birds are how residents affectionately refer to someone from the cold climates (reason for the name) thatusually visits for 6 months in the winter (to get away from the snow and to pay less taxes). A good name to remember to impress your friends.

Palmas del Mar: Amenities and Services
The opinions I’m offering below are very personal and I don’t intend them to be a professional review; only my own views. I therefore do not guarantee that you will agree with them (but I must admit that I like to eat well). CHEZ DANIEL at the Anchor Village- an excellent French restaurant. Cozy atmosphere and good service. Excellent wine menu. Definitely recommended especially the Brunch every Sunday. Reservations recommended. C BAR AT Palmanova Plaza. Definitely a misnomer. Although it has a beautiful bar, the Restaurant is the big attraction. Very attractive modern Décor. Excellent Gourmet food with a Latin twist. Definitely recommended. Open lunch and dinner. BLUE HAWAII at Palmanova. Good Chinese food and Sushi Bar. “Sharing” portions. Take- out and delivery. Outdoor seating available. Lunch and Dinner. Recommended. LAS TAPAS at the Anchor Village Marina.
Horseback riding in the Caribbean at Palmas del Mar is a dream come true. If you like horses, beach and a vibrant Caribbean community this is your place. Dr. Chegui Benítez is a Palmas del Mar homeowner and a successful ophthalmologist, but his real passion are horses and Hacienda Candelero, the equestrian center at Palmas del Mar is his real passion. He was born with flanges in his hands. “Since when have you been riding?” I asked him. “Wow… since I was born. I grew up on a farm…this is my life!” he said while looking at the horses. His eyes sparkle. You could feel his love for these animals and the ranch. “Horses are in my blood. As soon as I wake up I come here and in the afternoon, after work, I come here again”.

Nothing like spending a day at the Palmas del Mar Beach Club were you will run into friends and in many cases, get to meet your next door neighbors. It happened to me once! There are sunny areas for those of us who love to sit in the sun and shady areas for those who don’t. And, you don’t have to carry towels, chairs, food and drinks as when you go to the beach. You sit in your chaise lounge chair and the waitress brings you food and drinks. The kids’ pool is just wonderful, the bucket, the “chorritos”, and the slides are a ball. Special note: don’t miss the sunset at the new deck overlooking Vieques Island. Want a quick dip in the ocean? Just step out and come back for a refreshing shower and exercise in the lap pool! You have family visiting you with kids? Take them to the Beach Club and they will love you forever. I remember when my nephew came to visit from New Jersey years ago when he was still a toddler; he stood still, looked around with open eyes at the Beach Club…

A boardwalk at the Pterocarpus forest at Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico opens recently. A major step in the Palmas del Mar Forest project was taken when the first 500 feet of the Forest boardwalk were inaugurated. Over 1,000 people attended the inaugural family-day event which underscored the commitment of this community toward the restoration and preservation of one of the most precious jewels with which Mother Nature blessed the island of Puerto Rico. Visitors had the opportunity to experience first-hand what this project is all about and to get a clear vision about what this major amenity will look like in a not too distant future. The Forest is now open to visitors.
